Welcome to My Fundraising Page!
I am joining Canadians coast-to-coast in the Walk to Fight Arthritis. I am walking and raising funds to help find a cure and support the over 4.6 million Canadians who, like myself, live with arthritis.
As you may know, I have Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS). HUH??? How do you even say that??? It's taken me a while to figure that out and even to spell it. Basically, AS is a chronic, autoimmune condition which attacks the joints in my spine. This causes inflammation, fatigue, and severe pain to my back, which can extend further to other parts of my body. This has had such a major impact on every aspect of my life, greater than I ever imagined. And because it's not a visible disability, most people don't understand why I seem to be suffering. Still, others don't even believe me when I explain it. With treatment, some days I feel good and can carry on like usual. Other days, the pain and fatigue can be so horrible it takes every once of strength I can muster just to get out of bed to let my dog outside. Thankfully, I have some wonderful friends and family who have stood by me throughout my bad days.
By helping raise funds you are supporting the next advancement in research, the next great treatments and the Society’s suite of pain management programs. The Society has been the largest non-government funder of arthritis research in Canada, investing over $195 million in projects that have led to breakthroughs in the diagnosis, treatment and care of people with arthritis.
There is no cure for arthritis. I will be dealing with AS for my whole life now. We need to work together to create an arthritis free future.
I would be overjoyed if you could make a donation to support this important cause. However, if you can't, I would be happy if you were able to get out and join a local walk yourself or even send words of strength and encouragement.
Thank you so much!
