As some of you know, one of our twins Jada, was diagnosed with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) last fall at the age of 3. After struggling with a congenital foot deformity, her orthopedic specialist referred her to a pediatric rheumatologist after she developed swelling in her left knee, and both ankles. When the diagnosis came, we were in disbelief, but it explained a lot. JIA is an autoimmune disease that attacks the joints for no known reason, causing pain and swelling. Without effective treatment, this leads to permanent joint damage. Unfortunately Jada has not responded well to treatment so far, but we are optimistic that we will find an answer for her. The pain affects her every day. This is a disease that needs a cure.
As a family, on Sunday June 4th, we are joining Canadians coast-to-coast in the Walk to Fight Arthritis. We are walking with and for Jada, and to support the over 4.6 million Canadians who live with arthritis.
By helping raise funds you are supporting the next advancement in research, the next great treatments and the Arthritis Society’s suite of pain management programs.
