Alpha Omicron Pi is an international women’s fraternity that was founded January 2nd, 1897 at Barnard College (Columbia university). There are currently 208 collegiate chapters around Canada and the United States. The Lambda Epsilon chapter at the University of Waterloo was founded in 2008.
The fraternity promotes the values of service, scholarship and leadership. Serving the world around us is one of AOII’s founding principles.
Our fraternity’s official philanthropy is Arthritis Research and we have recently partnered with the Arthritis Foundation. The main reason Alpha Omicron Pi chose this to be our philanthropy is because arthritis is the leading cause of disability for women of all ages. From when Arthritis Research was chosen as our philanthropy, Alpha Omicron Pi has raised over $2,000,000 for grants and research.
